iPads for Education

Looking for great iPad resources or ideas online can seem like an overwhelming task and often the saying “needle in a haystack” jumps to mind. Your results can be pretty hit or miss. During our iPad 2 trial at my school, I spent hours scouring the internet in search for great sites and resources. I came across some useful sites that will help you find some really cool iPad resources specific to education.

This page will be updated regularly to include new sites that you might find helpful.

iTunes U – Has to be the most under-used resource by teachers. There are literally thousand of amazingly produced quality content waiting to be downloaded for free. The content is produced by educational institutions such as Stanford, Yale, Oxford, and UC Berkeley, along with other distinguished institutions such as MoMA, New York Public Library, and more. Students and Teachers can use iTunes on their computer or the iTunes U app on their iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch to browse and download over 500,000 free lectures, videos, books, and other resources on thousands of subjects.

Apple in Education – Apple regularly update their Apple in Education webpage to feature some of their favourite apps for learning. With so many educational apps on the App Store, there’s no limit to the learning possibilities at your fingertips.

APPitic – a directory of apps by education by Apple Distinguished Educators (ADEs) to help you transform teaching and learning. (apps, education, educacion, primaria, preescolar, educativos)

AppAdvice – a great website that offers a different perspective when it comes to locating apps. This website categorises and groups apps and presents them as a collection rather than a single app. Clever and time effective.

iPads for Learning – This website is for educators who want to learn about using iPads in education. Here you will find information about the Victorian school iPads for Learning trial including specially selected apps, classroom ideas and technical tips.
Apps in Education – A great organised blog created by a Visual Arts teacher who is interested in Computer Integration, Web 2.0 and engaging students in their own learning through innovative technology and collaborative classroom practices.

iPads in Education Resources – is a great online magazine curated by Adam Brice from Ringwood North Primary School in Victoria. RNPS were involved in the Victorian iPads for Learning trial and this is a great collection of all things iPad.

Redlands College in Queensland Australia run a successful 1:1 iPad program for their students and as a result, they have created a resource packed iPad Portal which is a must visit for educators at various stages of their iPad journey. You can find policy documents, useful how to documents amongst other fantastic resources that are waiting to be shared with you.
